Reality:

38% of California's children will drop out of school prior to completing the 12th grade.

Solution
:
Both elementary and high school students benefit from interacting with each other; the KIP program gives the "at-risk" elementary students a big "sister" or "brother" as a role model.
  • Open to Fair Oaks Elementary students who have been identified as "at-risk." Program pairs high school student tutors with younger learners.

  • Tutors are Sequoia and Menlo-Atherton H.S. Academy students, and receive school credit.

  • Both tutors and students experience growth in basic reading, writing and critical thinking skills

  • Afterschool, student-centered; pairs meet twice weekly at Fair Oaks School site.
